C4 (00Cr14Ni14Si4) is an ultra-low carbon and high-silicon austenitic stainless acid-resistant steel, which has excellent corrosion resistance in strongly oxidizing media, far superior to ordinary stainless steels (including 304L). Compared with high-silicon iron and high-purity aluminum, its corrosion resistance is better than that of high-purity aluminum and similar to that of high-silicon iron. However, its mechanical strength and machining performance are incomparable to those of high-purity aluminum and high-silicon iron. Therefore, currently, C4 steel is recognized as a material with good comprehensive performance among the materials used in strongly oxidizing media, especially concentrated nitric acid.

It has a very good application effect when used in the pipelines, valves, condensers, pumps, etc. in the devices for concentrated nitric acid production by the indirect method (magnesium nitrate method). It can also be used to manufacture fasteners such as bolts, screws and nuts.
